THE HOLY FATHER CELEBRATES MASS FOR THE FEAST OF THE PRESENTATION OF THE LORD AND CANDLEMAS

The Holy Father uses the cope for the Candlemas part of this Feast celebrated in the great narthex of St. Peter's.  Then the pope changes from the ornate cope to a new ornate chasable, quite beautiful and stunning in its noble simplicity, the kind of vestments I like! The proper chants are chanted and the Kyrie is not omitted! His Holiness Mass is almost as nice as ours at St. Joseph Church, which had all the proper chants too!

PLEASE NOTE THE STUNNING PRE-VATICAN II ALTAR ARRANGEMENT THAT THE HOLY FATHER HAS MAINTAINED TO MODEL TO THE WORLD! ALSO, PLEASE NOTE, THE AD ORIENTEM WAY THE POPE DELICATELY MODELS THE PRAYERS OF THE CHURCH, NOT IN A DRAMATIC, ACTING VOICE, BUT IN A QUIET, SOOTHING PRAYING VOICE EVEN WHEN FACING THE CONGREGATION!

Better, not great but good. Somebody please hide that brown striped mitre. I'm sorry Father but it's awful. If he wants simplicity he should just use the plain white mitre that brown clashes with everything

Wow, Guido Marini was allowed to wear lace!!! Ok enough of that ugly brown mitre already how about some stunnig Roman vestments such as fiddle backs and a bejewled mitre!!! And yes more LACE!!!!!! Lets at least look like we are Roman Catholics not Methodists at the Vatican.

Well, at least he's not matching the mitre to the vestment colors...that always looks hideous for a Roman Bishop....

JOE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SO TRUE!

Please excuse my teenage girl ish use of exclamation marks, but matching the mitre to the chasuble exactly is hideous, yes. It just does not look good. Banish to hell those polyester chasuble-mitre sets. Ugh! I will grant a very few exceptions to this, but usually this does not work.

I daresay mitres should, as a rule, be always white or gold and the only other color should be the embroidery.

I actually think it's in the CE that the Miter is supposed to be Gold or White.

What works for the east (visible pectoral crosses, matching mitres) does not work for the west.

The matching sets should be burned, I agree.

I watched the video of Pope Benedict on this occasion last year and he looked so tired and ill. I think another year of the papacy would have killed him.

Regarding mitres, I think that Francis's ones are well-proportioned. I've noticed that the silk linings match the vestment colours, which is not objectionable.

I have one beef - the Novus Ordo has the Nunc Dimittis during the procession, rather than at the distribution. On this occasion it led to the omission of three significant chants; Adorna, Responsum and Obtulerunt. The first of these is a rare borrowing from the Greek liturgy, and its inclusion is desirable from an oecumenical as well as from a liturgical standpoint.
